Fun Facts about Sunscreen

How many times do we hear ‘sunscreen is important?’ Probably all the time. Here at CONNECTED we definitely say it all – the – time, because it is incredibly vital for good skin health and skincare support. Today we’re revealing some fun facts about sunscreen that you might not be aware of.

7 FACTS ABOUT SUNSCREEN THAT YOU MIGHT NOT KNOW

If you want healthy, radiant skin there is one important non-negotiable piece of information that you have to know – sunscreen is the best. What we mean is that sunscreen is a super crucial ingredient to protecting your skin from the very damaging effects of the sun. But the best way to really share what we mean is to get into some fun facts about sunscreen that you might not know. Here we go!

SUNSCREEN FACT #1:
WORDS MATTER

Did you know that the term “sunblock” is now a no-no? In other words, it is no longer permitted because no sunscreen or SPF can block 100% of the sun’s rays – we hate to break it to you, but it’s true! Higher number SPFs block slightly more of the sun’s UVB rays, but no sunscreen can block them all successfully. So, for example, a sunscreen with SPF 30 will block approximately 97% of UVB rays, while SPF 50 blocks about 98% of them.

SUNSCREEN FACT #2:
STUDY METHODS

There are constant studies being done about sunscreens. Did you know that to determine SPF the amount of sunscreen used is 2 milligrams per centimetre of skin.

SUNSCREEN FACT #3:
LESS IS NOT MORE

The majority of people only apply about 25-50% of the recommended amount of sunscreen. In this case, less is not more. Less sunscreen actually means less protection. So listen up! In order to get the full protection of the SPF you choose for your face, you should be applying about ½ tsp amount to your entire face, ears and neck. Read those directions everyone!

SUNSCREEN FACT #4:
CLOUDY DAY SPF

Cloudy days doesn’t mean that you’re safe from the sun’s rays. Did you know that clouds only block about 20% of the sun’s rays? That’s it!

SUNSCREEN FACT #5:
SUNSCREEN & ANTIOXIDANTS

Antioxidants work with sunscreen ingredients to defend your skin from environmental stressors. Look out for these superstar antioxidants in your next sunscreen purchase – vitamin C and E, green tea, grape and pomegranate.

SUNSCREEN FACT #6:
SPF IS PART OF ANTI-AGING SKINCARE

In order to be effective, any anti-aging (by which we mean, graceful, healthy, vibrant aging) skincare routine must must must include the daily application of a broad spectrum sunscreen with at least SPF 30. This helps with anti-wrinkles, anti-dark spots, anti-sagging products you use. So be sure to SPF every day!

SUNSCREEN FACT #7:
BETTER LATE THAN NEVER

Never wear sunscreen? Think it’s too late? Well guess what – it’s not! It is never too late to start protecting your skin, so pick up a sunscreen today and starting crushing on your skin.
