Achieving a beautiful sunless glow starts with mindful skin preparation. Follow these guidelines:
Exfoliate and shave 24 hours prior to spray tan appointment.
If you have dry skin, put moisturizer on skin overnight the night before your appointment and rinse off prior to appointment.
Make sure all lotions, perfumes, deodorant and makeup is taken off prior to appointment.
Any waxing/sugaring should be done at least 24 hours prior but ideally 48 hours before spray tan appointment.
Book your manicure/pedicure the day before your spray tan.
Bring/wear loose dark clothing to wear after spray tan.

Do I Get Naked & Other Spray Tan FAQs
Many people who book their first spray tan are unsure of what to wear during the tan application or how best prepare for or care for their tan.
Below are our tips and tricks as well as answers to the most commonly asked questions.
How Should I Prepare For My Tan?
The best thing to do in preparation for your tan is to make sure you have exfoliated your skin. We recommend using a buffing mitt or glove. We don’t recommend using an oil-based scrub because oils can leave a residue on the skin which may cause the tan to streak.
If you plan to shave before your spray tan do so 12-24 hours prior to avoid skin sensitivity.
Arrive to your appointment without any makeup, body lotion, or sunscreen on. We want the skin free of any oils, creams or debris that may interfere with the evenness of the tan.
Do I Get Naked? What Should I Wear For My Tan?
Some clients choose to go nude and others prefer to wear underwear or a swimsuit during their tan. We recommend dark coloured ones if possible to reduce the risk of staining from the tan solution.
Men must wear a thong, boxers, briefs or shorts during their tan.
Whichever article of clothing you choose to wear will result in tan lines.
What Should I Wear After My Tan Is Applied?
The tanning solution we use is very transfer-proof but we do recommend wearing loose fitting dark clothing to avoid transfer after your tan is applied.
If you can, we recommend going braless for at least the first few hours after your tan is applied – you can keep on whatever you were wearing for tan application.
Do I Need To Worry About My Nails Being Stained By The Tanning Solution?
We take precautions and apply organic barrier lotions and oils to your palms, feet, lips, cuticles, nails and elbows to prevent any unnatural discolouration. As you are being sprayed you will be instructed to move to a few easy poses to ensure proper coverage following the natural lines and curves of your body.
How Soon After My Tan Is Applied Can I Shower?
This depends on which type of tanning solution is applied- our signature solution or the express option. If you select the signature tanning solution then you should not shower for at least 12 hours to allow for proper development of your tan.
Pressed for time and need to shower sooner? Our express option may be best as it allows you to shower 3-5 hours after application depending on how deep you want your tan to be.
Please note that it take 24 hours for your tan to develop fully and we recommend avoiding body washes or soaps when you first shower after your tan solution is applied.
We also recommend that you avoid any activity which may cause you to sweat for the first 12 hours after your tan is applied.
Tip: Even if it doesn’t look like it will rain, pack an umbrella in your bag. Carry an umbrella with you to prevent the rain from causing your tan to run or make your skin patchy and stain your clothes. Better to be safe than sorry!
How Long Does A Spray Tan Last?
If you prep your skin properly, follow the aftercare recommendations and use the recommended maintenance products most spray tans will last 7-10 days. Results may vary due to hormones, skin health and how you care for your tan.
If your skin tends to be dry we recommend using the SunnaTan Hydrate Me Lotion for moisturizing to avoid fading your tan after application. This moisturizer is designed to prolong spray tans and works with the tanning solution applied to the skin. You can also extend the life of your tan by using the SunnaTan Keep Me Golden Spray, Keep Me Sunkissed Face Tan Water and/or the Hydrate Me Gradual Tanning Lotion.
If I Have A Spray Tan, Do I Need To Wear Sunscreen?
We highly recommend wearing sunscreen daily. Your spray tan does not protect you from the sun’s damaging UV rays.
